The Travel-Week Protocol — the field guide, thirteen pages
The road

It isn’t discipline. It’s arithmetic nobody ran.

You order the 8oz filet, because you’re being good. Menus list steak weight raw, and cooked beef keeps about 75% of it — so what reaches the plate is closer to six ounces, and about 45 grams of protein. Not the 60 you’d assume.

For a 200lb man that’s roughly a quarter of the day’s target. From the largest, most protein-forward meal of the trip. The one you felt good about.

Then there’s the half hour on the elliptical you promised yourself and didn’t do. Not because you’re weak — because at nine at night, tired, you couldn’t say what it would actually get you. A man who won’t spend energy on an undefined return is exercising judgment. The failure isn’t his. Nobody defined the return.

That’s the whole pattern. Not weakness — a travel week treated as an exception to be survived, when it could be a normal week executed somewhere else.

The guide is that arithmetic, done before you leave.
